Foreign ministers of Bangladesh and Turkey have agreed to work on arranging a bilateral visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Bangladesh this year.

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said he would soon visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.

Dr Momen held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Austria, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey during his one-day visit to Turkey Saturday for attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

During his meeting with Mevlüt, the Bangladesh foreign minister discussed the Rohingya crisis in detail.

The Turkish foreign minister assured his Bangladesh counterpart of the continued support for the cause of Rohingyas.

As Dr Momen met Alexander Schallenberg, foreign affairs minister of Austria, they discussed the joint celebration of the golden jubilee of the countries' diplomatic relations.

The prime ministers of Bangladesh and Austria had a telephone meeting last month, and the two foreign ministers discussed ways for further elevating bilateral relations.

Dr Momen also had a meeting with Ruslan Kazakbaev Aitbaevich, foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

The Bangladesh foreign minister discussed the potential of increasing trade between the countries and assured his Kyrgyz counterpart that Bangladesh would be willing to work together with Kyrgyzstan in the coming days – to increase relations between these two countries of ancient ties – in the areas of trade, connectivity, and people-to-people contact.

Kairat Sarybay, executive director of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA), also called on Dr Momen on the margins of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

The CICA executive director explained the recent activities of the intergovernmental organisation.

Dr Momen emphasised the importance of a peaceful and stable Asia for a prosperous continent. "CICA, where Bangladesh is a member, should play an active role in this regard."
