Jamal Mostafa, who has been performing his responsibilities as the acting DNCC Mayor, came up with the remark after completion of a 4-day workshop on âClimate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Action Planâ. The workshop ended in the capital city on Sunday.
Briefing reporters at DNCC Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan, the panel mayor said, âDisasters have emerged differently in different times in our city. So we need to prepare too for facing disaster.â
He hoped that this workshop would play an important role in reducing the risk of disaster.
Earlier, Dr Tariq Bin Yusuf, Project Director of DNCC's Urban Resilience project, highlighted the progress of the DNCC on the action plan to reduce disaster risk in light of the Sendai Framework of United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).
In fact, under the 10 "Essentials" of the Sendai Framework, the action plan for reducing risk is being prepared. Among them, five detailed work plans have already been completed in the workshop held on 25-28 October. The remaining work plans will be completed in December 2018.
Some notable aspects of this action plan are: 'Mock drill' exercises by DNCC; preparation of all action plans with importance in reducing the risk of disaster risk in new 18 wards; to provide emergency services to the service providers during emergencies and to increase infrastructural capacity for disaster prevention; preparation of disaster risk database for disaster forecasting.
