Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said that the punishment outlined in the proposed Cyber Security Act have been scaled down and efforts will be made to resolve cases filed under the former Digital Security Act according to provisions of the new law.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after a discussion with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwen Lewis, at the Secretariat.
Digital Security Act to be replaced by Cyber Security Act 2023
When asked about the attorney general’s assertion that proceedings under the Digital Security Act would continue, the law minister said, “We are considering our options carefully. Violations committed prior to the introduction of the new law will be subject to the previous legal framework. However, we are contemplating the appropriate course of action. The amendments to this law have led to a substantial reduction in punitive measures. We are committed to ensuring successful implementation of these revised measures,” he said.
