“She (Fazilatunnesa Mujib) was inspirational...In absence of Bangabandhu, when he was in jail, Fazilatunnesa Mujib always shadowed Bangabandhu with her wisdom, courage, and strategy…allowing him to lead his life free of worries,” she said.
Awami League Presidium member Matia Chowdhury made the remarks at a discussion marking the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib arranged by Bangamata Parishad at Jatiya Press Club.
Former cabinet members as well as members of parliament attended the event to share stories of Bangamata’s contribution.
“Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib is immortal to us through her struggle and sacrifice,” said former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque.
Former Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun said Fazilatunnesa Mujib always took care of Awami League activists and supported their families in times of crisis.
Former Vice Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said, “Conspirators responsible for August 15 massacre should be revealed to public immediately.”
He also urged the youth to study more about the lives and works of Bangabandhu family.
Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib always supported and sided with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in fulfilling his dreams.
Jahangirnagar University VC Farzana Islam, Supreme Court Lawyer and Legal Assistance to Helpless Prisoners and Persons (LAHP) Chairman Advocate Toufika Karim and Tarabo Pourasava Mayor Hasina Gazi received Bangamata Award 2019 this year.
