Haque said the list was published in the first phase after scrutinising various documents. It will be available at the ministry’s website www.molwa.gov.bd.
The Ministry is also trying to collect lists from district-level record rooms as well as those printed by the Bangladesh Government Press.
“More lists will be published in phases after scrutiny,” the Minister said. “Lists and documents related to Razakars, Al-Badr, Al-Shams and people opposing independence were destroyed in many ways since anti-liberation forces were in power for a long time.”
Law Minister Anisul Huq said the Razakars will be brought to justice considering the nature of their crimes.
About the final list of genuine freedom fighters, Haque said they are preparing to publish the final list of freedom fighters.
“The primary draft list of genuine freedom fighters was released today and the final one will be released on March 26 next year,” he said.
According to available information, the number of listed freedom fighters is 3,33,856. Of them, 2,51,285 claim to be freedom fighters, he said.
“The actual number of freedom fighters is not more than 2,10,000,” Minister Haque said, adding that currently 2,01,461 freedom fighters are getting government allowances.
