The victims were Zakir Hossain, district correspondent of Reuters (Bangladesh) and Abu Akter Karan, Meherpur district correspondent of news channel DBC.
Karan said Social Service Officer Abdul Kader locked them in a secret room when they went to the office for reporting purposes.
Abdul Kader, his driver Milon and some others also beat them up and broke the camera in that room. It took a team of police to later rescue the duo, according to Karan.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Shah Dara Khan said a case has been filed over the matter, and action will be taken in accordance with the investigation.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Munsur Alam said steps will be taken in this regard after collecting detailed information.
Kader's version of events couldn't be obtained till filing of this report.
