The defaulters were asked to appear before the court on February 23 to explain their loan defaults and how they will make the repayments.
The bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order after examining a list of defaulters submitted by People’s Leasing.

The defaulter individuals and institutions defaulted Tk5 lakh or more from the non-banking financial institution.
The court summoned the defaulters after People’s Leasing submitted a list of 500 borrowers following its order.
The 280 defaulters owed Tk1,655 crore to the company, People’s Leasing lawyer Mejbahur Rahman said.

Earlier, Proshanta Kumar Halder – accused of illegal wealth acquisition and money laundering – and his close associates embezzled a big chunk of money from People’s Leasing.
