Executive Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Yamada Junichi paid a courtesy call on Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at his ministry office in Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.
During the meeting they discussed various issues related to mutual interest, said a press release of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
The JICA Executive Senior Vice President said that the progress of ongoing projects including implementation of the Matarbari power plant is satisfactory.

“There are opportunities to work together on advanced technology, gas-meters, and the capacity building of Bangladesh Power Management Institute.
The state minister thanked the JICA Senior Vice President for the financing and cooperation of his organisation in various projects in the power and energy sector.
He said that Japan is a tested friend of Bangladesh.
He also discussed the issue of cooperation on energy transition towards carbon neutrality, capacity building of power and electricity sector, modernisation of gas pipe line system, prepaid gas meter, gas pipe line extension, and underground sub-station projects.
He said the importance of renewable energy is getting increased focus in the global context.

“We would like to take a short project on hydrogen fuel. There is also an opportunity to work together on increasing energy efficiency”, he added.
JICA chief representative Tomohide Ichiguchi, additional secretary of Power Division Md Nurul Alam and additional secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division Shahina Khatun were present during the discussion.
