The 48-year-old journalist felt severe chest pain in the morning while leaving his home for the National Press Club to attend the annual general meeting of the Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC).

And he breathed his last after suffering a heart attack while being taken to the hospital at around 9am, family sources said.
Hilali was a presidential candidate in the upcoming DSEC election which was scheduled to be held on Saturday. The election date has been deferred to January 24 following his demise.

The journalist left behind his wife, daughter, and a host of other relatives.
The first namaz-e-janaza of Hilali was held at Bhorer Kagoj Bhaban and the second one at the National Press Club. He will be laid to rest in Nilphamari’s Domar.
