Residents of Dhaka’s Jurain area on Thursday arranged a unique exhibition of belongings of people who died of dengue to highlight the city corporations’ failure to control Aedes mosquito that causes the deadly fever.
The out-of-box protest was staged in front of the Kodom Fountain near Supreme Court area in the morning.
The protesters, including women with kids, showcased the items like T-shirts, water mug, a roll of thread, caps that belonged to the men and women who succumbed to dengue.
On display were a used teacup and an empty can of condensed milk left forever by 35-year-old Fatema, a Jurain resident.
A pen, a notebook, a painting brush as were among the exhibits indicating that dengue claimed the lives of little kids of the area who were supposed to return to schools after nearly 18 months like others.
The residents demanded that these mementoes of the deceased be showcased in the Dhaka Nagar Jadughar (museum).
Dengue has so far claimed 57 lives in capital Dhaka, including about 20 in Jurain, the worst-affected area in Dhaka South City Corporation.
Some 14,831 patients had been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
