The mayor came up with the warning while inspecting a clean-up drive at Godakhali canal in Mirpur area in the capital, said a press release.
Atiqul said like the activities taken for saving people from Aedes mosquitoes during monsoon, they will also take necessary steps to protect the city dwellers from Culex mosquitoes during winter.
“We will start inspecting canals or water-bodies after October 20 and will fine the concerned people if those are found unclean,” warned the mayor.
The mayor also urged everyone to come forward to help the city corporation in curbing the mosquito menace.
“We are cleaning the canals, but it is not the duty of the city corporation alone as another government agency is responsible for this,” he further added.
He also warned all against encroachment of canals or dumping wastes into them.
