A lineman died from electrocution and another was injured while doing renovation work for West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited in Kushtia's Kumarkhali municipality on Saturday.
The incident took place at 1:30pm in the Khokonmor area of Kumarkhali municipality in Kushtia.
The deceased lineman Manik Hossain, 40, was son of late Amir Hossain of Zainabad village of Chapra union of the upazila. Chief lineman Raju Hossain, 45, son of late Tashlem Hossain of the same area was injured in the incident.

Sources said workers of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (Ozopadiko) of Kumarkhali were doing renovation work in Khokonmor area of the municipality. The power line was supposed to remain shut until 2 o'clock due to the work. But the line was switched on around 1.30 pm, and linemen Manik and Raju came in touch with a live wire while carrying out repair works.
Later their colleagues rescued them and took them to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Manik dead on arrival. Later, Raju was sent to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
When contacted, Moiz Uddin, the contractor, said that he was working on the other side, but the line was supposed to be off. The accident happened because the line started before the specified time, he added.
Denying the complaints, Kumarkhali Ozopadiko Engineer Md Makhlesur Rahman and Assistant Engineer Raju Hossain said that this tragic accident happened due to the fault of the contractor.
Md Mohsin Hossain, officer in charge (OC) Kumarkhali Police Station said that legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
