Journalist Masuda Bhatti and retired Inspector General of Registration (Senior District and Sessions Judge) Shahidul Alam Jhinuk have been appointed as the two new information commissioners.
The appointment was made by the President under Section 15(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2009. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in a notification on Thursday that the order issued in the public interest will come into effect immediately.
Journalist Bhatti replaces former information commissioner Suraiya Begum. Shahidul Alam Jinuk is replacing former information commissioner Dr. Abdul Malek as he (Malek) became the chief information commissioner on March 21, 2023.
Jinuk joined the judiciary in 1991 as the 10th BCS officer and retired in January this year from the post of inspector general, registration as senior district and session judge.
Bhatti, a political analyst and writer who worked at the BBC and The Moscow Times, was the executive editor of the ‘Daily Amar Arthaniti’ before this appointment.
