Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) will set up the proposed lab with the name “Bangladesh National Renewable Energy Laboratory”.
It was disclosed by BEPRC chairman Zakia Sultana while presiding over a virtual seminar organised by the organisation.

Addressing the seminar, Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury welcomed the move and advised the concerned officials to expand its research activities outside the capital.
“All the research activities should not be centered in Dhaka. Rather, the research activities can go outside the capital as well,” he told the seminar.

He said financing is not a major problem in conducting research works. “But the research works should be of good quality and standard by the support of local and international technologies.”
Dean of the engineering, information technology and physical science school of the Federal University of Australia Dr Syed Islam presented the keynote paper in the online seminar which was also addressed by senior secretary of the energy division Md Anisur Rahman, Power Cell director general Mohammad Hossain, Prof Saiful Haque of Dhaka University and Prof Saifur Rahman.

Dr Syed Islam said that the new laboratory can carry out research on renewable energy, grid digitization, energy efficiency, reduction of carbon emission, green code and development of Human Resources.
He also offered for joint research work with different universities for promotion of renewable energy in Bangladesh.
