“This is the first time 12.60 lakh secondary level students received stipend money directly to their bKash numbers in a very short time,” said a press release from bkash.
Earlier on May 20, Education Minister Dipu Moni inaugurated the stipend disbursement programme under Secondary Education Sector Investment Program (SESIP) through G2P (Government to Person) initiative.
Under the new digitalised system, bKash distributed the stipend to the students across the country in a cost-effective way and in a very short time before the Eid.
Agrani Bank was the banking partner of this stipend distribution program, said the release.
SESIP is the largest stipend scheme run by the Ministry of Education to eradicate the dropout rate of school students.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Education Minister Dipu Moni said students and their parents are in crisis like everyone else in this critical time of Covid-19.
This G2P initiative has taken the government's vision of Digital Bangladesh and education development program one step ahead.
Stipend of more than one million students under two more projects will also be distributed through G2P within the short span of time.
Mizanur Rashid, chief commercial officer, bKash said the company is proud to accomplish the prompt distribution of stipends with accuracy and transparency before Eid during this Covid-19 situation.
