Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that the education program of engineers and related professionals should be prioritized in order to reduce the risk from natural disasters, such as earthquakes.
He made the remarks at a seminar titled "Earthquake-induced Disaster Risk Reduction: Preparedness and Actions" on Saturday.

“All of our authorities now have adequate vehicles. We no longer have to sit and wait for an ambulance to arrive. We've come a long way since then. What we need to do now is identify the main issue by emphasizing the education program,” reads a press release quoting the mayor.
“So far, all of the engineers I've interviewed for recruitment (in the city corporation) have told me that structural engineering isn't given much importance in BUET's civil engineering curriculum. Engineering education should also include a variety of specializations,” it added.
