The operation was completed on Monday morning at KMCH. A team of doctors from the Department of Surgery led by Khulna Medical College Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Orthopedics Dr Mehdi Newaz operated on Lamia.
Dr Newaz said it was a complex surgery but they have succeeded.
Earlier on Sunday the doctors decided to perform the surgery by forming a medical board after receiving the report of Lamia's 3D CT scan and high ultrasonography examination.
Lamia's grandfather Habibur Rahman said Lamia had been in excruciating pain and suffering for three days since the shooting last Friday.
Lamia, daughter of Jamal Hossain of Arafat Jame Mosque area of Khulna city, was shot in the leg when their neighbour and local contractor Yusuf Ali, in a fit of rage, took out his gn and started firing at his daughter's boyfriend and his friends, who were gathered outside his house at the time.
Lamia arrived on the scene hearing a commotion. Yusuf missed all his targets, and ended up shooting Lamia, a Class 6 student, in her left leg.
Only one case has been filed over the entire incident, which is by Yusuf alleging extortion on the part of his daughter’s boyfriend and his entourage, who were apparently there to ask for the daughter’s hand in marriage.
While Yusuf’s reckless misuse of a firearm remains overlooked, police have already made four arrests in line with his complaint from different areas of the city.
