She breathed her last at Square Hospitals Ltd around 6:34am, said Director of the Gandhi Ashram, situated in Noakhali, Raha Naba Kumar.
He said Jharna Dhara was taken to the hospital on June 1 after she had a brain haemorrhage.
She was put on life support after she suffered the brain haemorrhage for the second time on Wednesday, Raha said.
Jharna Dhara was born to Pramath Chowdhury and Asha Lata Chowdhury in Ramganj of Laxmipur district on October 15, 1938.
She remained celibate throughout her life due to her involvement with social welfare and humanitarian activities.
The social worker received numerous awards, including the Ekushey Padak in 2015 and Padmashree in 2013, the highest civilian award in India. She also received Bajaj International Award in 1998, Peace Award 2000, Ananya Award in 2001 and Begum Rokeya Padak in 2013.
