They made the call at a discussion in 35th founding anniversary of National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) at Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Workers Party lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon said that garments workers succeeded hardly to demonstrate for their rights. The government fixed salary for them but owners did not care that.
“Workers have been hassled in various times demonstrating for their rights. Owners terminated workers from work places for the demonstration,” he added.
NGWF president Amirul Hoque Amin said that the country’s workplaces especially in garment industry should be women friendly as there is no proper security for them.
“Women are harassing sexually in their workplaces. Even they do not get proper salary and promotion in the sectors. So women friendly workplace is needed in the garment industry as huge number of women are working there,” he also said.
Industrial Bangladesh Council (IBC) secretary general Salahuddin Sopon, Bangladesh Chhatra Maitree general secretary Kazi Motaleb Hossain Jewel and leaders from different trade unions were present in the programme.
