Police rescued a baby boy from a house at Parbisnupur area of Kalia Upazila under Narail district on Thursday night, over three weeks after the boy had been stolen by an unidentified woman from Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Ranima Begum, mother of the infant, said that the boy was born in Khulna Medical College Hospital on January 24 morning, and they were released from the hospital in the afternoon of that day.
But the baby was stolen from hospital premises while she and her husband were talking with the ambulance driver, keeping the baby to an unknown woman, said Ranima thanking everyone for recovering her baby.
Tofayel Ahmed, Sub-Inspector of Sonadanga Police Station and investigation office of the case, said that on information, police recovered the baby from a couple, Ranu Khanam and Lalon Molla, resident of Parbisnupur area of Kalia Upazila under Narail district. They had bought the baby for Tk 1 lak 80 thousand.
Ranu Khanam and Lalon Molla have been taken to police custody, Tofayel Ahmed added.
Md Mamtazul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Police Station, said that a case was filed by the baby’s father accusing 5 named and 10 unnamed persons. This is a great success for the police department, he said.
However, efforts are underway to arrest the women responsible for the incident, he added.
