Sixty-one Indian truck drivers, who were stranded at Burimari land port in Patgram upazila, have finally returned home after 39 days.
Khandaker Mahmud, in-charge of Burimari land port immigration, said the truck drivers entered the Indian Territory through Changrabandha land port around 5pm.
Sources said the 61 trucks, loaded with jute seed, came to the Burimari land port from India on April 4.
The authorities concerned of Changrabandha land port enforced a lockdown in West Bengal due to coronavirus outbreak, forcing the truck drivers to remain stranded in Bangladesh.
The C& F Agents and Burimari land port authorities took steps to sent back the truck drivers after unloading goods but the authorities concerned of Chengrabandha land port did not allow them to enter.
Deputy Commissioner Abu Zafar tried to contact the Indian Embassy several times but did not reportedly get any response.
On Tuesday, the authorities concerned of Chengrabandha land port sent a letter to bring back the Indian truckers.
Izhar Ali, a trucker, said the Bangladesh government has taken necessary steps to send them back to their country.
Deputy Commissioner Zafar said they sent a letter to the ministry concerned and the truckers were allowed to leave after a meeting between the C&F Agents and land port authorities of the two countries.
