The 95th anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmed, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was observed in a befitting manner on Thursday.
Tajuddin Ahmed led the wartime provisional government during the Liberation War of Bangladesh 1971.
He is also regarded as one of the most influential and instrumental figures in the birth of Bangladesh due to his leadership of the provisional government in 1971, in which he united various political, military and cultural forces of Bengali nationalism.
A close confidante of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tajuddin was the general secretary of the Awami League in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Tajuddin, along with Mujib and Kamal Hossain, led negotiations with President Yahya Khan and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the transfer of power to the elected National Assembly.
Born in a middle class conservative Muslim family at Kapasia in Gazipur on July 23 in 1925, his father was Maulavi Muhammad Yasin Khan and mother Meherunnesa Khanam.
On November 3, 1975, four national leaders and heroes of the country’s Liberation War -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmad, Captain Mansur Ali and AHM Quamruzzaman -- were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail.
Liberation War Museum and private FM radio station, Radio Shadhin (92.4 FM) will jointly arrange an online programme on Thursday, marking the 95th birth anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The virtual event, titled 'Joy Amader Kobjay', will be joined by Liberation War Museum trustee Dr Sarwar Ali and Tajuddin Ahmad's daughter Simeen Hossain Rimi, Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Member of Parliament from Gazipur-4.
The event will be broadcasted live from the Liberation War Museum and Radio Shadhin's Facebook page at 5.30 pm.
