The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling onion to cardholders at Tk 35 per kg from Monday
Initially, the TCB will sell onions to cardholders in the Dhaka Metropolitan area.

A cardholder can buy maximum of two kgs of onion , a TCB spokesperson said on Sunday.
The government has decided to sell onion to the cardholders considering the higher price of the kitchen item compared to the last few years, TCB said.

Prices of both domestic and imported onions have increased in the market in the past few days. In a span of less than a week, the price of the local variety of onion has increased by Tk10 to Tk15 per kg.
In many parts of the country, including capital Dhaka, local onions are being sold at Tk 100 per kg while imported onions at Tk 70 to 75 per kg.

TCB usually sells sugar, soybean oil, and lentils among family cardholders at subsidised rate.
