The half-decomposed body of 19-year-old student Nais Ahmed was recovered 16 days after he went missing while bathing in the Teesta River in Rangpur.
The dead body was retrieved approximately one kilometer from the location where he had drowned, in the Sapmari area of Nohali Union in the Upazila.
This incident marks the recovery of the bodies of two missing students in the Teesta River.
Nais Ahmed, a resident of Ganesh Bazar in the Garagram Union of Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari, was staying at his grandfather Yusuf Ali's residence in Rangpur’s Gangachara.
He had appeared for the HSC examination at the local Anwarmari College this year.
After notifying the family of the missing individual and alerting the police, officers from the Gangachara Model Police Station arrived and, upon identification, handed over Nais Ahmed's body to his family members.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Hossain of the Gangachara Model Police Station said, "We responded to a report of a floating dead body at the location.”
Earlier, on September 6th, six friends ventured to the Teesta River near Kachua Bazar in Nohali Union of the Upazila for a bath. While in the river, all six friends began to struggle in the strong current, with one of them managing to reach the shore safely.
Bystanders were able to rescue three of them using a boat, but the other two went missing.
The body of one of the examinees, 18-year-old Munna Ahmed, was discovered approximately 5 kilometers downstream from the location where they had drowned after 34 hours.
