Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two smugglers with 43 gold bars – weighing 13.4 kg – from Jashore’s Chougachha upazila.
They were arrested on Tuesday (August 22) evening by Jashore 49 BGB Battalion.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 13,46,40,000, Jessore 49 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Ahmed Hasan Jamil said at a press briefing at 8 pm on Tuesday.

BGB captain Lt. Col. Ahmed Hasan Jamil said that based on a tip-off, the BGB came to know that a large consignment of gold was being prepared to be smuggled to India through Chaugachha border. Later, a special team of BGB took a position on the road of Bara Andulia village in Chougachha upazila.
At around 6 pm, two men on motorcycles heading towards the border were ordered to stop. When they tried to escape quickly, the patrol chased them and detained them.

The BGB team later found 43 gold bars wrapped in white cloth and Scotch tape in a bag.
Lt Col Ahmed Hasan said the arrestees, and the seized gold bars will be handed over to Chaugachha Police Station.
