An activist of Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League, was gunned down by miscreants in Bahadurpur Tetultala intersection of Jashore sadar early Friday, said police.
However, the victim’s family claimed the conflict centring the just-held Upazila Parishad election led to the killing.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali, son of Abdur Rahman of Bahadurpur area under the Sadar upazila and a fellow of the ward No-9 councillor Hajji Suman, also a Jubo League leader.
Locals said the victim was campaigner of upazila chairman candidate Towhid Chaklader Fontu who won in the election held on Wednesday last.

They said Mohammad Ali was returning home alone around 12:30 after attending a feast organised by the winning candidate Fontu.
A group of four to five men intercepted his way in the Bahadurpur Tetultala intersection and fired in his head and fled away, according to them.
Later, he was rushed to Jashore General Hospital where physicians declared him dead, said Dr Md Sujayet, a physician of the emergency department of the hospital.

He informed the victim sustained two rounds of bullet in head one in a leg.
Abdur Razzak, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali police station, said one more police team was working to nab the accused involved with the murder.
The motive behind the killing could not be determined right now, he said.
