US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has greeted Bangladesh and its people on the occasion of Independence Day that falls on Mach 26.
"On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I send my best wishes to the people of Bangladesh on your Independence Day on March 26 as you commemorate the centennial of the birth of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, “Father of the Nation,” ahead of your 2021 Golden Jubilee," he said in a message on Wednesday.
Pompeo said they stand with their friend and partner Bangladesh as it confronts challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
On this occasion, he congratulated all Bangladeshis as the country is set to celebrate this important day, according to the US Department of State.
Over the past 49 years, Pompeo said, the US and Bangladesh have enjoyed a strong friendship and close cooperation on sustainable economic development, regional stability, and peacekeeping.
He said the US remains committed to deepening people to people ties. "We will continue to support Bangladesh’s commercial endeavors and its commitment to the stability and security for the Indo-Pacific region."
