Although most of the city dwellers chose to remain at home fearing transmission of the extremely infectious COVID-19 disease, crowds still visited sites around Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, including Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Manikmia Avenue to celebrate the special day.

Bangladesh's independence was ensured on this day in 1971 after the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered following a bloody nine-month war.  

 The Liberation War Affairs Ministry cancelled the military parade marking Victory Day this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, the Victory Day was celebrated through various programmes maintaining health guidelines.

The government had made it mandatory for all to wear masks to curb the transmission.

Despite the country witnessing a persistent infection and deaths by Covid-19, many people were seen reluctant to maintaining social distancing and health guidelines on Wednesday.
