Preparations for the celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, are progressing fast in Lalmonirhat district.
The festival will begin on October 20 and conclude on October 24 through the immersion of idols in rivers.
About 463 puja mandaps have been set up for the big celebration in the district.
Sculptors are busy putting finishing touches on the idols of the Goddess Durga.
A total of 160 puja mandaps were set up in Sadar upazila, 25 in Lalmonirhat municipality, 114 in Aditmari upazila, 89 in Kaliganj upazila, 71 in Hatibandha upazila, 28 in Patgram upazila and four in Patgram municipality area.

Bachhu Pal, an artist, said, “The price of necessary items for making idols is higher compared to the previous year and we have been making idols for the past three months.”
Hira Lal Roy, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad’s Lalmonirhat unit, said that all preparations have been taken for the smooth celebration of Durga Puja.
Mohammad Ullah, deputy commissioner of Lalmonirhat district, said strict measures have been taken at all the puja mandaps and police, Ansar and RAB personnel will keep patrolling to ensure security.
