The Zakat Board under the Islamic Foundation has approved a proposal to distribute Tk 11 crore among the underprivileged during the current fiscal year.
The decision was taken at the 64th meeting of the board, held on Monday at the Islamic Foundation in Agargaon with board Chairman and Religious Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain in then chair.
In the meeting, the newly reconstituted board—formed after the July revolution—reached a consensus on strengthening and streamlining its activities.
The board also decided to enhance public engagement and intensify promotional campaigns to encourage potential donors to contribute to the Zakat Fund.
A six-member committee was also formed to revise and refine the Zakat Fund policy.
This committee will be led by senior Hadith scholar Sheikh Mufti Jasim Uddin of Darul Ulum Muinul Islam Madrasa, Chattogram.
The board expressed its determination to uplift the Zakat programme's impact and expand its reach to address the needs of the most vulnerable segments of society.
