BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday warned that the attackers on their party’s different democratic programmes are being marked by people.
"I would like to say you (AL activists and cops) are being identified for making such attacks on our programmes. People are marking you as you’re standing against us and beating us with sticks for talking about public issues,” he said.
Speaking at a rally, the BNP leader also said the repressors will have to be accountable to the people and face trial in the near future as the days of the Awami League government are numbered.
He said the government could not suppress BNP by resorting to many attacks, cases and enforced disappearances over the last 15 years. “We would like to say don’t make any more futile efforts to weaken BNP.”
Jatrabari zone of Dhaka south city unit arranged at Saidabad in the city protesting the price hike of fuel, daily essentials and the killing of three opposition leaders in Bhola and Narayanganj in police firing.
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, urged the law enforcers to play an impartial role as public servants.
“You’re not the officers and employees of any party. You are the officers and employees of the republic…you’re breaking your oath as public servants by attacking our programmes in such a way. We would like to say enough is enough. You please don’t make any more attacks on our leaders and workers," he said.
The BNP leader said the government has put the country into serious trouble by indulging in widespread corruption. “Our reserves and imports have decreased while there’s a crisis of dollar. They looted the stock market, reserves and the banks.”
To get rid of the current situation in the country, he said there is no alternative to the restoration of democracy by ousting the Awami League government.
“Sheikh Hasina has usurped power by killing democracy. People no longer want democracy killers to stay in power. It’s now our responsibility to unite the people of the country, all the democratic and patriotic forces and defeat this fascist government,” Mosharraf said.
