Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) on Monday said the country is finally going towards one-party rule, accusing the Election Commission of preparing for a one-party election.
The AB Party leaders made the remarks while speaking at a demonstration and rally held on Monday in solidarity with the final day of the second round of nationwide blockades.
Prof Abdul Wahab Minar, joint convener of the party speaking at the rally, criticised sabotage attacks on public properties and arson on vehicles, which have all been video recorded by members of the public and widely available on social media.
The climate of fear and intimidation is not working anymore, he said.
“People are simply fed up with this one-party rule, infamously known as ‘BAKSHAL 2', which is finally shaping up to become ever more visible. No fundamental rights guaranteed in our constitution are available under this authoritarian government, especially for the opposition leaders and pro-democracy activists,” he claimed.
He said the AB Party would play an active role in this struggle for freedom and democracy.
Earlier, a protest procession paraded through the streets of Bijoy Nagar, Kakrail, and Palton areas before ending in front of its central office at Bijoy 71 square.
