Free, fair, peaceful elections incredibly important: Afreen Akhter
“Nothing was mentioned in the constitution about the election-time government. As I’ve mentioned before and saying again now, the Prime Minister has the authority to decide the number of ministers required during the election. If all are necessary, all will remain. If a smaller size is preferred, that can be arranged as well. It is within the Prime Minister's discretion, as the constitution grants her this power.”
Responding to a question about the Labor Law, he said, “The cabinet has approved amendments to the Labor Law. The ILO has provided input into the current amendments. The ILO Country Director has conveyed their perspectives, and I have addressed some issues today. Further discussions on certain matters will take place on October 22.”
Vote for Awami League in upcoming election to continue progress: PM Hasina
“Discussions were held regarding the formation of trade unions. Originally, 30 percent of workers' signatures were required for a group of companies to establish a trade union. This is now being revised to 20 percent. We made a commitment to the ILO to phase out this requirement,” he explained.
He continued, “Trade unions can now be formed with the signatures of 15 percent of workers in companies employing more than 3,000 workers. I don't believe their area of concern is extensive, and I am optimistic that it can be resolved.”
