Pakistan achieved an extraordinary feat by successfully chasing down a target of 345, marking the highest-ever successful chase in a World Cup match, to stun Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Hyderabad.
Muhammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper batter, led the charge with a spectacular unbeaten 131 off 121 balls, showcasing his best innings in ODIs so far.

Despite grappling with a leg injury for a significant portion of his inning, Rizwan managed to strike out eight fours and three sixes. Surprisingly, he scored more runs running between the wickets with the injury.
This match witnessed a total of 678 runs, which is the highest match aggregate in an ODI involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan's initial pursuit was bolstered by Abdullah Shafique, who also achieved a century. However, quick dismissals of Imam Ul Haque (12) and captain Babar Azam (10) shifted the focus onto Rizwan's shoulders. He delivered an exceptional performance, steering Pakistan towards victory.
They reached the target of 345 in 48.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Dilshan Madushanka took two wickets for Sri Lanka.

In the earlier innings, Sri Lanka posted a total of 344 in 50 overs, propelled by centuries from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Despite their commendable effort, they ultimately found themselves on the losing side.
Hasan Ali shone for Pakistan, claiming four wickets.
Looking ahead, Pakistan is set to face their arch-rival, India, in Ahmedabad. With two wins in two matches, Pakistan's confidence is on the rise, especially against India, who also secured a convincing victory in their first match against Australia.
In contrast, Sri Lanka has now suffered defeats in both of its first World Cup matches. Their next challenge will be against Australia on October 16th in Lucknow.
