3.5-magnitude quake hits southeast of S.Korea, no damage reported


A 3.5-magnitude earthquake hit a southeastern region of South Korea, local media said Monday citing the country's weather services.

The quake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale jolted 15 km northeast of Miryang city in South Gyeongsang province shortly after midnight at 00:32 a.m. local time (15:32 GMT Sunday), the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) was quoted as saying.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was initially determined at 35.56 degrees north latitude and 128.90 degrees east longitude.

Tremors were felt across the entire province, but no damage was reported yet, according to local media reports.

It was the second-strongest quake that happened in South Korea this year. The strongest was the 3.9-magnitude earthquake that struck a region in North Gyeongsang province on July 21.
