Dhaka’s air unhealthy for sensitive groups this morning
Dhaka's air quality was marked as 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' this morning (September 09, 2023).
With an air quality index (AQI) score of 117 at 8:56 am, Dhaka ranked 8th on the list of cities worldwide with the worst air quality, according to IQAir.
Kuwait's Kuwait City, Netherlands’ Rotterdam and Amsterdam occupied the first three spots on the list, with AQI scores of 174, 170 and 158, respectively.

An AQI between 151 and 200 is considered ‘unhealthy’ while between 201–300 is ‘’very unhealthy’, and 301–400 is 'hazardous', posing severe health risks to residents.
The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, informs people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is and what associated health effects might be a concern for them.
In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone.

Dhaka’s air ranked 9th most polluted in the world this morning (June 7, 2023) as per the Air Quality Index (AQI).The air in Dhaka was categorised as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’, with an AQI score of 145 at 9:37 am.India's Delhi, USA’s New York City and Qatar's Doha occupied the first three spots on the list, with AQI scores of 313, 187, and 162, respectively.

Dhaka’s air quality turns 'unhealthy' again
After a marked improvement in the past week, Dhaka's air quality slipped back to the 'unhealthy' zone on Saturday morning.
With an air quality index (AQI) score of 108, recorded at 9.02 am, the metropolis ranked sixth in the list of world cities with the worst air quality.
Iran’s Tehran, Chile’s Santiago and Pakistan’s Lahore occupied the first three spots in the list, with AQI scores of 152, 152, and 142, respectively.
An AQI between 101 and 200 is considered 'unhealthy', particularly for sensitive groups.
Similarly, an AQI between 201 and 300 is said to be 'poor', while a reading of 301 to 400 is considered 'hazardous', posing serious health risks to residents.

Air Quality Index: Dhaka’s air worst again in the world
Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka ranked worst in the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Tuesday morning.
It had an AQI score of 163 at 09:04m. The air was classified as ‘unhealthy’.
Although Dhaka’s air was supposed to improve during the general holidays as public transports remained suspended for over one month, it remained unhealthy for days.
When the AQI value is between 151 and 200, everyone may begin to experience health effects while members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.
Pakistan’s Lahore and China’s Chengdu occupied the second and third positions in the list of cities with the worst air quality with AQI scores of 157 and 134 respectively.

Dhaka’s air still ‘unhealthy’
Although all the activities, including vehicular movement, remained halted in the capital amid the ongoing nationwide shutdown aimed at curbing coronavirus, Dhaka ranked fourth worst in the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Wednesday morning.
It had an AQI score of 155 at 08:24am. The air was classified as ‘unhealthy’.
