Dhaka University authorities announced that it will hold classes virtually due to the prevailing heat wave condition. DU public relations office issued a press release in this regard on Sunday (April 21, 2024). Schools, colleges to remain closed till Apr 27 due to heat wave "To avoid health risks due to the intense heat wave prevailing across the country, all classes of Dhaka University will be held online until further order and exams will continue as usual," the notice reads. Heatwave: National University-affiliated colleges to remain shut until further notice To lower the health risks, the university authorities also suggested students to wear white or light colour cotton clothes,  to stay under shadows, use cap or umbrellas, carry water and saline while going out and not to drink tea or coffee. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (December 12, 2022) said that public universities in Bangladesh lagged behind in adapting to virtual or online class when the government tried to introduce it during the Covid-19 pandemic. “Let me share something regrettable. Our public universities were a bit slow in using the digital system in education during the pandemic period. They were far behind (compared to private universities),” she said. The Prime Minister said this while attending the inaugural programme of Digital Bangladesh Day 2022. ICT Division organised the programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) with the theme ‘Advanced Technology Inclusive Development’. But our public universities (did not), even Dhaka University (did not start promptly),” she said. She said that after repeated requests, public universities of the country introduced online classes. “That was the reality. When a system is beneficial to us, why should we not adopt that?” – she questioned. She mentioned that successful implementation of Digital Bangladesh made it possible for the government to keep the economy, education and other activities running properly during the pandemic. Regarding the economic situation worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, sanctions and counter-sanctions, Sheikh Hasina said that prices of essentials have increased globally. Begum Rokeya University authorities have decided to hold online classes every Thursday in a bid to save energy in line with the Prime Minister’s recent call to maintain austerity. The decision was taken at an online meeting of the university’s academic council chaired by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mohammad Hasibur Rashid on Tuesday night. According to the decision, , exams for which schedules have been published will be held in-person.   All the administrative offices will remain closed on the stipulated day.
