Amid widespread protests against the growing incidents of rape in the country, the government has planned to enact a law with a provision of death penalty as the highest punishment for the heinous crime.

As the country is witnessing a growing number of rape incidents, experts think it is an outcome of ‘sick politics’ as many rapists have ‘political clout’ and advised political parties to go for a ‘course correction’.

Activists of different organisations, including those working on women’s rights, staged demonstrations on the road in front of the Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday, protesting the growing incidents of rape and demanding the toughest punishment for rapists.
