Global Covid cases near 625 million
The overall number of global Covid cases is gradually nearing 625 million.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 624,918,177 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,555,411 on Thursday morning.
The US has recorded 98,411,240 cases so far and 1,086,685 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.
India recorded 2,459 new Covid-19 cases, according to federal health ministry data released on Wednesday.
The new cases marked an increase from the daily caseload of 1,968 on Tuesday.
India's total tally of Covid-19 cases has risen to 44,601,934, with the active caseload being 33,318 currently.

The country also logged 17 new Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 528,733 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.
Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported two more Covid-linked deaths with 549 fresh cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total fatalities rose to 29,374 and the caseload to 2,028,114, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 14.66% from Thursday’s 13.86% as 3,961 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45% and the recovery rate dropped to 97%.

Global Covid cases top 596 million
The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 596 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 596,934,012 and the death toll reached 6,459,290 on Wednesday morning.
The US has recorded 94,869,936 cases so far and 1,063,087 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's daily Covid-19 caseload rose to 8,813 on Tuesday, officials said.
According to federal health ministry data released on Tuesday, 8,813 new cases of Covid were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,277,194 in the country.
The cases reported on Tuesday marked a sharp decline in comparison to the daily caseload of 14,917 reported on Monday.
India's active caseload currently stands at 111,252, according to the ministry.

The country also logged 29 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 527,098 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported 566 locally transmitted confirmed Covid cases, of which 482 were in Hainan Province, the National Health Commission said Wednesday.
Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported zero Covid deaths and 93 new cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The country last reported zero Covid-linked death on August 13.
With the latest numbers, Bangladesh's total fatalities remained static at 29,314 while the caseload rose to 2,009,222, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate rose to 4.41 percent from Monday's 4.09 percent as 2,110 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. The recovery rate rose to 97.15 percent from Monday's 97.14 percent.
In July, the country reported 142 Covid-linked deaths and 31,422 cases, the highest monthly death toll and caseload since March this year.
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.

Global Covid cases near 266 million
The overall number of Covid cases is fast approaching 266 million amid the emergence Omicron, a new variant of Coronavirus.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 265,331,453 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,248,492 till Sunday morning.
The US has recorded 49,051,140 cases to date and more than 788,202 people have died so far from the virus in the country, as per the university data.
Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since January, registered 22,138,247 cases as of Saturday, while its Covid death toll rose to 615,570.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 34,624,360 on Saturday, as 8,603 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the federal health ministry data.
Besides, as many as 415 deaths due to the pandemic since Friday morning took the total death toll to 470,530.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged six more Covid-linked deaths, the highest in the past one week, along with 176 fresh cases in 24 hours till Saturday morning.
With the latest cases, the daily-case positivity rate increased to 1.07 per cent from Friday’s 1.40 per cent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the fresh numbers, the total fatalities rose to 27,995 while the caseload mounted to 15,77,246.
Among the latest deceased, two were men and four were women. Three deaths were reported from Dhaka division while one each was from Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet divisions.
However, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.77 per cent.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 16,223 samples, amid the growing concern over the new ‘Omicron’ variant of coronavirus.
Besides, the recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.77 per cent with the recovery of 162 more patients during the 24-hour period.

On November 20, Bangladesh logged this year’s first zero Covid-linked death with 178 cases.
Bangladesh reported the highest number of daily fatalities of 264 on August 5 this year, while the highest daily caseload was 16,230 on July 28 this year.
So far, 37,829,420 people have fully been vaccinated in the country while 64,414,430 received the first dose as of Thursday, according to the DGHS.
Among them, 86,637 students, aged from 12-17, have fully been vaccinated while 899,510 students received the first dose so far.
