Boycotting the election dialogue not a solution: Gono Front
Gono Front on Thursday urged President Abdul Hamid to ensure that the next Election Commission is formed under a law provided by the constitution.
This was part of a 14-poingt proposal a seven-member delegation of the party led by chairman Zakir Hossain presented to the president during talks held at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, according to the president house media wing.
It also said that boycotting the dialogue with the president will not solve the problem.
President Hamid told the delegation that healthy politics is essential for ensuring the welfare of the people. The political parties need to develop a sound political culture so that they and their leadership are able to gain their trust.
The party proposed the formation of a nine-member election commission with three women members who would be honest and believers of the 1971 War of Liberation.

The delegation also said that a clear provision should be included in the proposed election law so that there would be no government interference in the polls.
The party proposed the formation of an election-time government led by the incumbent prime minister and comprising representatives from all the political parties that have members in Parliament until a law is made.
Secretary to the President Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam, Press Secretary to the President Md. Joynal Abedin and Secretary (Joint) Md. Wahidul Islam Khan were present on the occasion.
