Land management across the country will soon be digital: Adviser
The Land Management system across the country will soon be fully digital, Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder has said.
Speaking to reporters after the first session on the second day of the three-day District Commissioners (DCs) conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday, Majumder said that the transition from the traditional system to a digital one might be difficult at first, but over time, people’s difficulties will be alleviated.
Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry, ASM Saleh Ahmed, was also present at the briefing.
Workshop discusses challenges in digital land survey operations
Majumder further said that the chief adviser is committed to making land management across the country digital. Currently, survey work is being conducted with drones, and the government is utilising modern technologies.
He added that trained personnel and companies are being brought in to assist, and training programmes are underway. "I hope that day is not far when land management across the country will be fully digital," he said.
In response to a question about whether the pending applications for e-namzaari will be processed before March 10, Majumder informed that it is an ongoing process, with applications being continuously received. He expressed optimism that the system would be functional before March 10.
Tk 338-cr project planned for digital land zoning
Senior Secretary Saleh Ahmed said that when the digital process began, there were about 4.5 lakh pending applications nationwide, but that number has since decreased and will continue to drop.
This will also reduce the harassment faced by people.
"Our goal is to complete it by March 10, and I hope people will be able to use the system smoothly before then. There is no issue with the ‘porcha’ now. Our suffering has reduced by 80 percent," he added.

DCs conference set to begin on Sunday
The three-day annual conference of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will begin on Sunday.
Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate the conference at 10:30 am at his office, said Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid during a briefing at the Secretariat on Saturday.
As in previous years, the main venue of the DC conference will be the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
The Cabinet Secretary also said this year's conference will include a total of 30 working sessions with various ministries and departments, along with four special sessions.

The special sessions include the inaugural ceremony, a meeting with the Chief Justice, an open discussion with the Chief Adviser, and a meeting with the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association.
Some 354 proposals have been received from DCs and divisional commissioners ahead of the conference, which will conclude on February 18 (Tuesday).

DCs’ stronger role needed for protecting rivers: State Minister
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said the deputy commissioners have been asked to strengthen measures for protecting rivers from pollution, encroachment and restoring navigability.
“The DCs have an important role in maintaining navigability of rivers and free those from illegal occupation and pollution as the deputy commissioners are the chief the of district committee dealing with river protection,” he said.

The state minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after the end of the 2nd session on the 3rd day of the DCs Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
“Rivers are losing navigability due to illegal sand lifting from the riverbed, which creates obstructions on river routes. The DCs have been asked to strongly monitor it,” he said.
Besides, the DC’s were asked to strengthen their surveillance to check illegal activities in land ports in the country, said Khalid.

However, the DCs have made some proposals to develop the river ports in Hatiya and Bhola and make those passengers-friendly, he said adding “Already we have taken steps in this regard.”
Replying to a question about river accidents, the Minister said, “Many major accidents have occurred on river routes recently and some irregularities are there in this sector but it is not possible to change the sector in a day.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to perform their lawful responsibilities rising above all kinds of fear and greed to ensure the welfare of people and steer the country towards prosperity."For the welfare of people, you’ll have to rise above all kinds of fear and greed, and perform your lawful responsibilities," she said.Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the inaugural session of DCs’ Conference 2022 that took place at Osmani Memorial Auditorium. To make Bangladesh free from poverty, we’ve to develop the living standard of the grassroots level people; we’ve to develop further."The PM mentioned that the government has taken massive programmes to provide urban facilities in rural areas so that the tendency of villagers to move to urban areas decline. "District administrations have to supervise those with utmost care as we’re giving the highest importance to rural development and creating employment opportunities in the rural areas."She also asked the DCs that it is their responsibility to make overall development of a district.

The issues including Covid-19, land management, law enforcement, strengthening activities of local government, disaster management, poverty reduction and employment at the local level, social safety net activities, ICT and e-governance, education, health, environment, physical infrastructure and development activities are expected to be highlighted during the three-day DCs’ conference being held.
