The interim government has implemented 16 recommendations put forward by four key reform commissions, according to a statement issued by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing on Thursday night.
The four commissions are the Election Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission, and Judiciary Reform Commission.
From the Election Reform Commission, two recommendations have been implemented—amendments to the International Criminal Tribunal Act and the introduction of a new election observation and media policy.
The Public Administration Reform Commission’s proposals on guaranteeing citizens’ fundamental right to obtain passports and the implementation of public hearings have also been carried out.
The government has adopted four recommendations made by the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.
These include the abolition of the pre-investigation mandatory search process, the repeal of Section 32A of the ACC Act, the formation of a dedicated task force comprised of various agencies to investigate high-level corruption, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Anti-Money Laundering Enforcement Department (AMED).
The Judiciary Reform Commission's highest number of recommendations—eight in total—have also been implemented.
These are the establishment of a Supreme Court Judge Appointment Commission, creation of information desks in courts, allocation of separate spaces for women and children, and the issuance of circulars to remove legal obstacles in appointing new lawyers in cases filed against existing counsel. Additionally, mediation services have been linked with legal aid programs, and measures have been introduced to accelerate the disposal of both civil and criminal cases.
Earlier in the day, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said among 121 short-term actionable recommendations made by various reform commissions, 16 have already been implemented while 85 are under implementation.
He said the Cabinet Division received 121 such recommendations deemed suitable for immediate implementation from the Law Adviser based on inputs from key commissions including the Electoral Reform Commission, Police Reform Commission, Judicial Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Reform Commission and Public Administration Reform Commission.
