The scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections in Gopalganj-01 and 02 constituencies has been completed. Out of 26 candidates, 16 nominations were declared valid while 10 were scrapped.
The process started Saturday at 11 am at the Returning Officer’s office in the District Commissioner’s complex.
In Gopalganj-01 (Kashiani-Muksudpur), four candidates, including Ganadhikar Parishad’s Kabir Mia and independent candidates Ashraful Alam, Nazmul Alam, and Qayum Ali Khan, had their nominations cancelled.

In Gopalganj-02 (Gopalganj Sadar and part of Kashiani), six candidates, including BNP rebel Sirajul Islam Siraj and independents Kamruzzaman Bhuiya, Shipon Bhuiya, Roni Molla, Utpal Biswas, and Moshiur Rahman, were disqualified.
District Returning Officer and DC Md. Arif-uz-Zaman said the rejections were due to non-compliance with the one percent voter endorsement requirement and outstanding loan defaults.
