Two candidates were detained at an examination centre in Rangpur after being caught with electronic devices during a recruitment test for the post of ‘Assistant Sub-Food Inspector’ under Directorate General of Food, on Saturday afternoon.
They were subsequently sentenced to 20 days in jail by a mobile court in Rangpur. The convicted candidates were sent to Rangpur Jail following legal procedures.
The sentenced individuals are Idris Ali Akand (30), son of Abdul Bari Mia from Muriyadho village under Sadullapur police station in Gaibandha, and Sajjadul Islam (24), son of Ershadul from Maltibari village under Ulipur police station in Kurigram.
According to OC Azad Rahman of Rangpur Metropolitan Haragachh Police Station, the examination was held on Saturday (Nov 29) across 77 centers in Rangpur city. During the exam, Idris Ali was caught using an electronic device in his ear at Maynakuti Senior Alim Madrasa center under Haragachh police station, while Sajjadul Islam was apprehended at Gulalbudai High School center. Both candidates were found with electronic digital devices.

Executive Magistrate Ashim Kumar Das conducted the mobile court on the spot and, under Section 188 of the Penal Code 1860, sentenced each of the two to 20 days of simple imprisonment for cheating in the examination.
Following the legal proceedings, the two convicted candidates were sent to Rangpur Jail on Saturday evening, the OC confirmed.
