Police detectives in a drive have arrested two suspected muggers for their alleged involvement in killing a man after snatching his mobile phone in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on December 15, last year.
The arrestees, picked up from Basabo area on Monday, were identified as Sabbir Hossain, 20 and Hridoy Khan, 22.
Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Talebur Rahman, said a team of DB police conducted a drive in Basabo area around 5 am on Monday and arrested the duo.
Police also recovered mobile phone sets and a motorcycle from their possession.
On December 15, 2004, three men, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted a rickshaw carrying Habibullah Habib, 18, a worker of a catering service, in front of Celebration Community Center in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area.
When they tried to snatch away his mobile phone, Habib tried to resist them.
Being resisted, the muggers stabbed him indiscriminately and left with the mobile phone.
Later, Habib was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Nayeb Ali, father of Habib, filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station on December 16, 2024.
With the help of technology, members of Tejgaon DB police, identified the muggers and arrested them.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted their involvement in the mugging.
Besides, Nahidul Islam Anu, 21, another accused in the case, was now in jail in another case filed with the Narcotics Control Act.
