Two workers of a shipbreaking yard were found dead in the Bay of Bengal in Kumira Ghatghar of Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Khalek and Saiful Islam of Gaibandha district, both of them were security guards of KR Ship Breaking Yard.
Local people spotted the floating bodies of the two workers and informed police who recovered the bodies in the morning, said additional superintendent of Police (Industrial area) Abdullah Al Mahmud.
Abu Sazzad Munna, manager of the KR ship Breaking Yard, said the two workers were killed in an attack by a gang of robbers.
However, local people said the workers died after their boat capsized following a collision with a ship during shipbreaking operations.
Police suspected that a boat carrying the two guards of the shipyard might have capsized after being hit by another vessel on Sunday night.
The actual cause of the deaths will be known after investigation, said SP Abdullah.
