Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 45,900 yaba pills in the capital's Jatrabari area on Thursday.
At around 10:20 am, the Dhanmondi Zonal Team of the DB-Ramna Division carried out a special operation based on intelligence reports regarding drug traffickers heading towards Rayerbag under the Jatrabari Police Station, concealing yaba pills in buses, said to Talebur Rahman, DC (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
As a result, a checkpoint was set up on the south side of the foot overbridge in the Rayerbag area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Road, leading to the arrest of the three individuals and the recovery of the drugs from the bus, he said.
The estimated value of the recovered yaba tablets is Tk 92.4 lakh, said Talebur.
During primary interrogation, the suspects confessed to sourcing yaba tablets from Cox’s Bazar and distributing them to various drug dealers in Dhaka and its surrounding areas.
A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Jatrabari Police Station, and legal proceedings were underway against the arrestees, said police.
