The Chattogram Custom House has initiated the process to auction 378 containers of unclaimed and auctionable goods through an electronic auction (e-auction) system in March 2026 in a move to reduce container congestion at Chattogram Port.

The initiative aims to ease the existing container backlog at the port, minimise security risks arising from congestion, ensure physical and financial safety, safeguard lives and property, and prevent wastage of state resources while enhancing the operational efficiency of the country’s busiest seaport, according to an NBR press release.

According to the Custom House, a total of 180 containers will be auctioned under E-Auction-2/2026 in 49 lots in line with Special Order No. 82/2025/Customs issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The goods to be auctioned include various types of chemicals, machinery, plastic scrap, art paper, bitumen, fabrics, household items, automobile parts and other materials. Officials said no reserved value has been fixed for these consignments.

Meanwhile, under E-Auction-3/2026, another 198 containers will be auctioned in 74 lots in accordance with Standing Order No. 91/Customs/2025/123 issued by the NBR.

Items in this batch include different types of capital machinery, passenger elevators, metal scrap, kraft liner paper and other goods.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the entire auction process will be conducted digitally. Interested bidders have been allowed to physically inspect the goods throughout March, while online bidding facilities have also been made available.

Prospective buyers can register and submit bids online through the Bangladesh Customs’ official e-auction portal. However, bidders will also be required to submit pay orders for security deposits and other necessary documents in the designated tender box.

The highest bidders will be required to clear the goods in compliance with the relevant provisions of the Import Policy Order 2021–2024.

Officials said the tender box for E-Auction-2/2026 will be opened at 2:00 pm on March 31, 2026, while the tender box for E-Auction-3/2026 will be opened at 2:00 pm on April 8, 2026.

Interested bidders have been advised to visit the official Bangladesh Customs e-auction portal for detailed information.

Authorities said such auction initiatives will continue in order to keep Chattogram Port free from container congestion.
