A total of 42 aggrieved aspirants on Monday filed appeal petitions with the Election Commission, challenging the decisions of returning officers over the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers.
Of the appeals, 41 were filed against the rejection of nomination papers while one was lodged against the acceptance of a nomination.
Appeals against the cancellation of nomination papers were filed from the following constituencies: Lalmonirhat-1 (1), Rangpur-1 (1), Rangpur-4 (1), Bogra-3 (1), Chapainawabganj-2 (1), Rajshahi-5 (1), Natore-1 (1), Jessore-5 (1), Narail-1 (1), Bagerhat-1 (1), Khulna-6 (1), Patuakhali-3 (1), Tangail-1 (1), Kishoreganj-1 (1), Kishoreganj-4 (1), Munshiganj-3 (1), Dhaka-3 (2), Dhaka-9 (1), Dhaka-18 (1), Gazipur-1 (1), Gazipur-2 (1), Gazipur-3 (1), Gazipur-5 (2), Narsingdi-1 (1), Narsingdi-4 (1), Narayanganj-4 (1), Faridpur-4 (1), Gopalganj-2 (1), Madaripur-2 (1), Shariatpur-1 (3), Shariatpur-3 (1), Comilla-1 (1), Comilla-9 (1), Chandpur-2 (1), Feni-1 (1), Chattogram-11 (1) and Cox’s Bazar-2 (1).
The lone appeal against the acceptance of a nomination paper was filed from the Brahmanbaria-1 constituency.
The appeal process with the Election Commission will continue until January 9.
Earlier on Sunday, the Election Commission announced that 1,842 candidates were declared valid, while 723 others were found invalid following the scrutiny of nomination papers.
According to EC statistics, returning officers accepted the nomination papers of 1,842 aspirants and rejected those of 723 during the scrutiny that began on December 30.
A total of 2,568 aspirants submitted nomination papers to contest the 13th parliamentary election across the country’s 300 constituencies before the December 29 deadline.
