Of the 52 incidents of violence against women, 16 were rape incidents, 12 gang-rape, nine attempt to rape and 15 incidents of sexual harassment, according to a survey revealed by the platform on Monday.
A total of 44 cases were filed while police arrested 93 people in this connection during the period, it said.
Four transport workers were sentenced to death and another to seven years imprisonment in the sensational Rupa murder case last year following widespread protests over the issue. The incident took place in 2017.
The rising incidents of rape are now a matter of concern due to delay in trial proceedings and arrest of rapists, said Jatri Kalyan Samity Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury.
Women are not only being harassed by the transport workers but also by their male colleagues, he said.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity also placed some recommendations. These are— making use of CCTV cameras in public transports mandatory, ensuring separate uniforms with nameplate for drivers, helpers and supervisors, making a database of transport workers, increasing the number of public transports, reserving some seats for women near the doors of the transport, ensuring quick trial of the cases related to sexual abuses in public transports.
